Sexy Susan Sins Again: A Review of the 1968 Comedy Film
Sexy Susan Sins Again (German: Frau Wirtin hat auch einen Grafen, Italian: Susanna... ed i suoi dolci vizi alla corte del re) is a 1968 Austrian-Italian costume drama-adventure-sex comedy film directed by Franz Antel. It is the first film of the series Frau Wirtin, following the 1967 film The Sweet Sins of Sexy Susan.
The film stars Teri Tordai as Susanne Delberg, a brothel owner who gets involved in a plot to save the family fortune of Count Andrea (BÃla Ernyey) from his evil counsellor Leduc (Jacques Herlin). Along with her friend Ferdinand (Harald Leipnitz) and her prostitutes disguised as an actors' troupe, she travels to Lucca in the Kingdom of Etruria, where she meets Count Enrico (Jeffrey Hunter), Andrea's brother and a rebel leader. She also crosses paths with Elisa Bonaparte (Pascale Petit), Napoleon's sister and the ruler of Etruria, who has a crush on Enrico.
The film is a mix of historical fiction, romance, action and humor, with plenty of innuendos and double entendres. The costumes and sets are lavish and colorful, and the music by Gianni Ferrio is catchy and upbeat. The film was a box office success in Europe, especially in Germany and Italy, where it was released as Susanna... ed i suoi dolci vizi alla corte del re (Susanna... and her sweet vices at the king's court).

The film is based on the popular German novel Die Wirtin von der Lahn (The Hostess from the Lahn) by Kurt Nachmann, which was also adapted into a musical comedy in 1960. The novel and the film are loosely inspired by the historical figure of Susanna Margaretha Brandt, a prostitute who was executed for infanticide in 1772. However, the film takes many liberties with the historical facts and adds fictional characters and events.
The film is part of a genre known as KostÃmkomÃdie (costume comedy), which was popular in German cinema in the 1960s and 1970s. These films were usually set in historical periods and featured humorous situations, sexual innuendos and attractive women in revealing outfits. Some of the most famous actors and actresses of this genre were Harald Leipnitz, Peter Alexander, Ralf Wolter, Teri Tordai, Edwige Fenech and Barbara Bouchet.
The film was shot in Austria and Italy, mainly in Vienna, Salzburg, Lucca and Pisa. The director Franz Antel was known for his prolific and versatile career, spanning from musicals to horror films. He directed over 100 films in his lifetime, many of them comedies. He also directed the other films in the Frau Wirtin series, as well as other KostÃmkomÃdien such as The Nymphs of the Stratosphere (Die Nichten der Frau Oberst, 1980) and The Erotic Adventures of Robinson Crusoe (Robinson und seine wilden Sklavinnen, 1972). ec8f644aee
